Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Press an indentation into the center of each cookie using your thumb or a spoon.
- Mix apple butter with cinnamon and nutmeg, then spoon into each indentation.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool briefly, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
