Ingredients

For the Bake
  • 2 tubes canned cinnamon rolls with icing (12.4 oz each, e.g., Pillsbury Grands! Flaky, 16 rolls total)
  • 2 medium apples (e.g., Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji), peeled, cored, and diced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
For the Gooey Sauce
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract optional

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Small Saucepan
  • Whisk

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, 2 tablespoons melted butter, 1/4 cup light brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Set aside.
  3. Open the cinnamon roll packages and separate the rolls. Reserve the icing packets for later. Cut each cinnamon roll into 4 equal pieces (quarters).
Assembly & Baking
  1. Scatter the cut cinnamon roll pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish. Distribute the seasoned apple mixture over the cinnamon roll pieces.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 1/2 cup butter. Stir in 1/2 cup light brown sugar and 1/4 cup heavy cream (or milk). Bring to a gentle simmer, whisking until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, if using.
  3. Pour the warm gooey sauce evenly over the apple and cinnamon roll mixture in the baking dish. Bake for 25-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly, and the cinnamon rolls are cooked through.
Finishing Touch
  1. Remove from the oven. While still warm, open the reserved icing packets and microwave them for 10-15 seconds (or run under warm water) to make them pourable. Drizzle the warm icing generously over the entire bake. Serve warm and enjoy your apple cinnamon roll bake!

Notes

For an extra crunch, you can sprinkle 1/4 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts over the top before baking. This bake is best served warm on the day it's made, but leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days and reheated gently.
