Ingredients

For the Sandwich
  • 1 English muffin split
  • 1 breakfast sausage patty raw, about 1.5-2 oz
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice American cheese or cheddar
  • 1/2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • pinch salt to taste
  • pinch black pepper freshly ground, to taste

Equipment

  • Small non-stick skillet
  • Spatula
  • Small Bowl
  • Toaster or Toaster oven

Method

Prepare the Sausage
  1. Heat 1/2 tbsp butter or oil in a small non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage patty and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside on a plate.
Cook the Egg
  1. Crack the egg into a small bowl and whisk briefly with a fork, adding a pinch of salt and pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low in the same skillet (add a tiny bit more butter if needed). Pour in the whisked egg.
  2. Let the egg cook for 1 minute until the edges begin to set. Using a spatula, gently fold the egg into a square or round shape to fit the muffin. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, then flip and cook for 30 seconds more until set.
Toast and Assemble
  1. While the egg is cooking, toast the English muffin to your desired crispness.
  2. Place the cooked egg onto the bottom half of the toasted English muffin. Immediately top with the cheese slice so it begins to melt.
  3. Add the cooked sausage patty on top of the cheese. Cover with the top half of the English muffin. Serve immediately and enjoy your Sausage Egg Cheese Breakfast Sandwich!

Notes

For a quicker version, use pre-cooked sausage patties and heat them in the microwave or skillet. You can also scramble the egg instead of folding it, or fry it sunny-side up for a runny yolk.
