Ingredients
  

Apple Filling
  • 6 medium apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
Crisp Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbling.
  8. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  9. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples work especially well. Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
